The Benchmark Methodology

One of the most common complaints about security plugins is that they bloat the database and slow down page load times. To test this objectively, we spun up identical DigitalOcean droplets (1GB RAM, 1 vCPU) running a standard WooCommerce installation.

We then simulated 1,000 concurrent requests over 5 minutes using loader.io.

Results: TTFB (Time to First Byte)

Because traditional application-layer firewalls (like Wordfence) load entirely within the WordPress execution lifecycle, every request must initialize the WP core before the firewall can act.

Database Impact

Application-layer firewalls log every blocked request into your wp_ database tables. During a sustained DDoS or brute force attack, this leads to massive DB bloat and eventual crash. Nexura bypasses the database entirely, logging to flat files or memory, keeping your SQL server healthy.
